Ravidas, also known as Raidas, was a mystic poet-saint of the Bhakti movement, active during the 15th to 16th century. Though details of his life and birth date remain debated, the clarity of his message has endured.

He taught that spiritual freedom belongs to everyone. In a society marked by deep divisions, his poetry rejected caste hierarchy and exclusion, and called people toward unity, compassion and a direct relationship with the divine.

Venerated across northern and western India, Sant Ravidas remains a guiding figure for the Ravidassia tradition and is honoured as a bhagat in Sikh tradition. His legacy lives not only in scripture, but wherever people work for a more equal and humane world.
